Progress

Well, settlement went very smoothly and we are now officially homeowners! I've never been so exhausted in my life...this weekend was non-stop work!!

Friday afternoon, as soon as we left settlement, we headed over to the house to start cleaning. I think I've mentioned before, but our new house was rented for the past 15 years, so it's not exactly the most beautiful thing in the world. It's definitely a diamond in the rough. But it's amazing what elbow grease will do...scrubbing the entire kitchen really did make a huge difference in how it looks. I'm very proud of our cleaning!!

Saturday I had to work all day, but Jake started prepping everything in the 2 bedrooms for painting. He taped everything off, cleaned the walls, spackled, etc. Today was my day off, so I literally painted ALL. DAY. LONG.

I should mention that I've never painted before. I naively thought that I would be able to finish BOTH bedrooms (which are both 18x12 - so they are very large rooms). Umm yeah, it definitely took me 6.5 hours just to finish the guest room!!! OMG! BUT, I'm proud to show my hard work:
This is our office/guest room. Spencer was very proud of my handiwork as well, she wanted to be in the picture :-) I'm really happy with how it came out and I love the color. The color is Behr Minted Lemon. It's sort of a sage-y green. I wasn't a huge fan of it while I was painting it, and I was starting to get worried I was hating it, but when it dried and I pulled the tape off, I love it now!! And Jake actually picked that color out too!!

So I was literally finishing this up at 5:30pm and dreading starting on our master bedroom, but I knew I had to, since we have so much to do this week. Right exactly at that moment, there was a knock at our door. It was Will, who is J's best friend and also a professional house painter. I am not joking. It was like a sign from God!! Ha! He came in his painting pants, with drop cloths and rollers in hand.

Literally, we finished the master bedroom IN ONE HOUR!!!! I was laughing hysterically at how much faster Will was at painting than me. It also helps that he's 6'4", so he doesn't have to use a ladder and he had a very steady hand for doing the trim work. I did help, but honestly, he really did the entire room. So here's Will's handiwork:
The lighting was bad since it was starting to get dark out, but the room is a very light blue. The color is Behr Cool Sky. I love this color. It's the perfect shade of light blue. Not really sure why my camera put dots on the picture either...those obviously aren't there :-) I love how soothing and calming the color is. We registered for navy, white and light blue bedding, so I think it will go perfectly.

I'm happy to have both bedrooms done. The only thing left to do is to steam clean the carpets and then we will start moving our stuff into these rooms. We still have to paint the main level and the basement, but we hope to finish all those this week and Saturday is our big moving day! We'll spend our first night there this Saturday!! I am glad we're able to paint the whole house before we move in, it's so much easier.

Also, exciting news...we're completely re-doing our master bathroom!! I will have pictures soon, as the contractors start on the demo work bright and early tomorrow morning!!! Yay for fun house projects!!

Congratulations and you guys did a great job on the painting! I feel like I am reading the story of hubby and I when we bought our house. It was definitely a diamond in the rough. I can't wait to see everything as it comes along :)

Congratulations! That is so exciting. I really like the color of the guest bedroom. I think I will have to write it down so I can use it sometime. Good luck with everything else!

Congratulations!! The colors look great! I painted for the first time when I was helping Tyson with his house and wow was it harder than I thought. That will be so fun to get everything moved in and organized! Make sure you celebrate Saturday night! I miss you, I'm going to have to come visit when it's all fixed up.
