I think one of the biggest signs that I'm ready to meet this kid is that I'm starting to shop for "real" clothes again. You know, pants that don't have an elastic waistband (even though they are the most comfortable pants EVER) and shirts without horrible side ruching. I strolled through Ann Taylor Loft the other day and I was almost giddy looking at all the bright and fun summer clothes that I may fit into soon. Of course, it's still weird shopping with a ginormous belly in "regular" stores, but I don't care right now.
One of my best friends from college sent a baby AND mommy gift the other day - a gift card to Baby GAP for the little man and a gift card to the regular GAP for mama to buy some new fun summer clothes! Bring. It. On.

40 weeks!
- Total weight gain: 18 pounds. I know, I haven't gained much but my belly is measuring right on track so I'm happy and my midwives are happy.
- Maternity clothes? Yeah, I have about 3 shirts that still fit me and I'm basically living in yoga pants and elastic waist shorts. I have a few dresses that work for when we go out to dinner as well. Thank god for maxi dresses!
- Stretch marks? No
- Sleep: It's ok - some nights I sleep amazing and other nights it's crappy. I wake up a bunch, but I'm usually able to get back to sleep pretty easily.
- Best moment this week: Hitting 40 weeks?!? However, that may also qualify as the worst moment of the week since he's not here yet! ha!
- Miss Anything? Running, sushi and ice cold beer
- Movement: Little man is slowing down cause he's running out of room. But I'm still feeling him roll back and forth in there
- Food cravings: Not really craving anything - I just eat what sounds good to me at this point. I have been eating a lot of popsicles because it's HOT out!
- Food aversions: Ehh none
- Gender: Boy!
- Labor Signs: I have pretty irregular, non painful contractions constantly. I could get into the more TMI labor signs I'm having, but I'll keep it PG on the blog.
- Symptoms: Um I'm 40 weeks pregnant. I feel surprisingly fantastic, but I feel bad for admitting that. I was actually able to run a mile the past 2 days (verrrrrrrrry slowly). But no real symptoms or complaints - I know I'm really lucky!
- Belly Button in or out? Out - it just popped out in the last week, so I'm taking it as a sign that it's time to have this baby!
- Wedding rings on or off? I took my rings off at like 20 weeks just because I was freaked out I would wake up one morning with swelling, but I don't have any swelling at this point. My rings still fit when I occasionally try them on but I'm planning on just leaving them off till after I deliver.
- Looking forward to: Meeting our baby hopefully any day now!!

Scenes from a Due Date
***Note - you will not find a newborn baby in any of these pictures. Little man did not want to become a baby born on his due date and he continues to be comfy cozy***
Although the baby did not make his appearance, we've still been having a fabulously relaxing weekend. I think the little guy wanted his mom and dad to be able to have one final wonderful weekend and that's why he decided not to arrive on time. Thanks for that, son!
The day started with blueberry pancakes and turkey sausage - YUM!
Then Jake gave me a "due date present" - I hate the term push present, so I guess these are more like a "you made it all the way to 40 weeks, hope the baby comes out soon!" present. Beautiful opal (my birthstone) earrings that belonged to his grandmother. I'm obsessed!
We spent the morning at the pool - which feels fabulous on my belly and heavy pregnant legs!
Spencer had fun at a cookout at my parents house and enjoyed her (more than likely) last weekend as an "only child".
The yummy Boston Creme pie that my mom made - the baby and I may or may not have had 2 slices...
40 week bump in all it's glory! Do we look like we're excited or scared to have a baby soon???

An Interesting TURN of events
Much to EVERYONE'S (including my entire midwives office) surprise, Baby Boy FLIPPED HEAD DOWN sometime in the last 7 days. When we went last week for my 38 week check up, he was definitely head up and chillin'. Yesterday at my 39 week check up, the midwife sort of jokingly asked if I thought he had flipped. I gave her a look and said "no, I haven't felt anything weird and I'm still feeling this big lump of a head up under my ribs".
Well they always confirm his position with an ultrasound and as soon as she put the wand on my belly, she started laughing. J and I were confused and thought something was wrong - until she said "He Flipped!!!"
I don't think either of us could speak. I may have even said "you've got to be f'ing kidding me???". Then we all (the midwife included) started laughing and crying at the same time. It was crazy to see - he is head down, super low and engaged - he's basically ready to go! J was joking that he's a "late bloomer" and I think he just wanted to wait until he was ready, even if it came down to the wire! We have quite an independent, stubborn child on our hand's already!
So the c-section we had scheduled FOR TOMORROW is officially cancelled! It's sort of weird because we had everything planned to meet him tomorrow, but now he could come at anytime - might be tomorrow, might be 2 weeks from now!!
She also told me I'm 2-3 centimeters dilated and 75% effaced, which I know can mean nothing in terms of when he's coming, but it does make me excited that my body is gearing up for all of this!
Now we're officially on "baby watch" and I'm doing every home remedy I can think of to start getting things moving. We went out for super spicy Thai food last night to celebrate his flippage and then walked and walked and walked around our neighborhood (Spencer is quite excited that she'll be getting so many walks over the next few days!)
Here is my 39 week BUMP from yesterday before we went out to dinner - I think you can tell how excited I am about no c-section!
Baby Countdown is ON!

The Final Countdown
So baby boy is still breech. I have tried everything (short of a version - it just seemed like a scary procedure with a low success rate) and he doesn't want to budge. I'm feeling more at peace with a c-section, even though it definitely still scares me. But my excitement to meet this little man is outweighing my fear and I just want him here healthy and safe!
Everything on our "to-do" list is pretty much checked off, so I'm just spending my last few days relaxing, cleaning and taking as many naps as I can!
Tomorrow is 39 weeks, so I'll be back with my last official bump picture and update!

Irony is...
You take your finished natural, med-free birth plan to your 36 week check up with your midwives, along with a list of questions about labor and delivery without drugs and how long you should labor at home, only to discover that Baby Boy is camped out and very comfortable in the frank breech position.
So instead of discussing your birth plan, you schedule a c-section and get sent home with a list of home remedies to try and convince your stubborn son to flip over. You will be getting very closely acquainted with your ironing board over the next 2 weeks for such fun exercises as the "Breech tilt"
It's really not as uncomfortable as it looks!
Baby Boy also gets the pleasure of having frozen edamame on his head several times a day - he's not a fan!
Instagramming at the chiropractors office! I'm letting her align my pelvis several times a week in hopes it allows the kiddo to find more room down there and get his head into position.
So that's where we are right now - a baby who loves being breech and a c-section on the books for 2.5 weeks from now. It can always be cancelled if he does decide to behave and I'm holding out hope that he gets his act together! In the meantime, any stories of a late term breech baby flipping or if you'd like to share how WONDERFUL your scheduled c-section was, I would appreciate them!!
